Alvis body repairs

1934 Alvis body repair

Corners of the bonnet are rubbed and rotted away and in need of replacement.
 1.6mm Aluminium
New metal needs letting in.
Cut out all damaged Aluminum.
An oversized patch, scribe and cut out.
Clamp in place using a Copper backing bar.
Then tack into place.
90 Amps AC TIG
Fully welded inside and out using 4043 1.6mm filler.
Using simple hand tools the distortion in the panel is put straight and the weld is filed flush.




Smoothed out nicely.
Next scribe the cut line
 and trim the panel using snips.
File to the cut line, round all corners off finally finish with abrasive paper on a small block.
 


All done, ready for another 82 years!
